Fernando Llorente is hoping he can keep his fine run of form going this weekend as we return to Premier League action at Burnley on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm).

In completing our memorable 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Round of 16, first leg with a late header last week, the Spanish striker made it nine goals in his last nine games in which he had either scored or assisted.

That productive spell for the forward includes further headed goals in recent games against Chelsea and Watford as well as an assist in each of his last three Premier League appearances.

And the 33-year-old admits he just wants to keep that run going at Turf Moor by giving his all for the team.

The opportunity was there for me and I had to keep fighting and focus on my work for every game

“I’m really happy (with my current form) because it’s difficult for the team when important players are injured,” he explained. “Other players have to be ready to step up and help the team when the gaffer needs us.

“The opportunity was there for me and I had to keep fighting and focus on my work for each and every game.”

He certainly took his opportunity against Borussia Dortmund in our last outing as he came off the bench to great effect, extending our lead to three goals in the two-legged tie within two minutes of entering the action.

The forward admits that being introduced late in these high-intensity games can be difficult at times but it is something he is more than happy to do, especially if it produces results like it did against the Bundesliga leaders.

Now, looking forward to Saturday, the World Cup winner knows the same energy and desire that we saw in the Champions League tie will be required to get a result against a Burnley side which remains unbeaten in the league so far this calendar year.

“It’s never easy to come on (in the latter stages of a game) because you have to be ready to come into the game matching the speed of the game, so you have to maintain your concentration and help the team in those moments,” the striker discussed.

“It’s special though when you come on and score - to help the team like that is an amazing moment.

“But now we have to move forward and concentrate on the test ahead of us this weekend. We have time to work hard and prepare well for the game against Burnley.

“We are really focused on this game because we think it is really important for us to keep fighting for the league and we need to win to continue that work.

“They are a tough team at home. They work hard, they are very aggressive and they are well-drilled. They are strong in playing long and getting the second ball. We have to be ready for that and prepare well for it as it will be a tough game.”
