Ahead of Sunday afternoon’s trip to Molineux, we bring you our latest collection of ‘Voices on the game’, with a number of opinions on how our clash with Wolves will pan out.

Sebastien Bassong

Former Spurs and Wolves defender

“Wolves have been doing really well. They’re playing good, attacking football and they have some quality players. They’ve got real attacking strength. Their team has gelled, they have good, hard-working people at the back and in midfield but their strength is going forward with the pace on the flanks – and they’re really confident. It makes a big difference when you’ve got that kind of confidence. That’s the threat for Spurs but, personally, I think Spurs are going to win. Spurs have got great players and they’re going through a good moment since the new Head Coach came in. They needed a new, fresh start and it’s working well, defensively and going forward with Harry and Lucas, who is also in good form at the moment. Jose Mourinho has given them a big boost and I think that if they play at their level and everybody turns up at the right times during the game, Spurs should get the win, but it’s going to be a tough game. Wolves have got terrific fans and especially since they rebuilt part of the stadium, they give them a big boost. When you’ve got good fans and your team is playing attacking football, it makes your home ground a bit like a fortress.”

Nuno Espírito Santo

Wolves Head Coach

“What I know is that it’s going to be a very tough game, competitive for sure, against a fantastic team, fantastic players, fantastic manager, so it will be very tough for us. But we recover and we will be ready and we will compete. This is what it’s all about, to compete – no matter what opponent you have – let’s go!”

On Jose Mourinho, who was his coach at FC Porto during his playing career, the Wolves boss added: “(He is) one of the greatest managers, so should be in football, and it will be a pleasure to receive him here in Molineux and compete and play. It will be a tremendous pleasure to have him. I don’t have to say many things, just see what Mourinho has done wherever he goes. It will be a chance to catch up after the game, but now I’m focused on what we did on Thursday (4-0 win against Besiktas). We will watch the game, there were players training in the afternoon and then we have to prepare.”

Jose Mourinho

Spurs Head Coach

“I think they are very adapted to the way the players are, the profile of players that they have. Normally they defend with that line of five but then they are very fast in projecting people to counter-attack, they are physically very strong and intense, they create problems to the top teams. They are not afraid to play against the top teams and really fight for victory, not just going to try and to see what is going to happen – they are not reactive, they are proactive. They have this style of play that is very aggressive and we as Tottenham felt that last season with a defeat at home and with a very difficult match and result also in their stadium.”

Heung-Min Son

Spurs forward

“Wolves are having a fantastic season. Perhaps they didn’t start as well as they would have liked but, at the moment, they are doing very well. Of course, we’re going away from home, so we have to be ready for another fight in another important game. I think it will be a really tough game for us, but it is up to us to get a result there.”

Eric Dier

Spurs midfielder/defender

“It’s a very difficult game against Wolves, a team that has done extremely well since being promoted. They have a very clear way of playing, a lot of good players and they do very well at home, so it’s going to be a tough game for us, we know that.

“We’re all excited going into the Christmas period now and the games we’re going to play and trying to move up the table.”
