Spurs Women v Brighton Women - Karen and Juan's preview

It’s Spurs Women versus Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (WSL) this Sunday (8 December, 2pm kick-off) as we return to home soil at The Hive for the first time since October.
A midweek trip to Birmingham City on Wednesday saw us earn a point at Solihull Moors after Kit Graham’s header cancelled out Abbi Grant’s opener in the first half for Blues.
In our second fixture in five days, we take on Hope Powell's Seagulls who are ninth in the WSL with one win from eight coming in a 3-0 home victory against Birmingham City last month.
Since their first victory in the league this season, they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United but were unlucky not to seal three points against Reading last weekend as the Royal scored in the 95th minute to finish the game 2-2.
It will be another tough contest this weekend as we search for our first league win since our 2-1 away victory to Bristol City at the end of October.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Head Coach Karen Hills said: “Getting more points on the board is our aim. We just need to stay focussed and appreciate that it’s going to be tough and challenging but if we put our chances away then we’ll have a great chance of getting the win.
“We had to work really hard for our point on Wednesday against Birmingham and we fought hard to get the three points, but it wasn’t to be. After the last few games and some disappointing results, we really want to get that winning feeling back.
“However, we’ve got to take some positives from Wednesday’s game - we created plenty of chances and gave some players who haven’t featured much the opportunity to get minutes. Going into Brighton, we won’t underestimate them, they’re a well-established team with a fantastic manager and they’re very organised and disciplined in the way they play.”
Disappointed not to come away with a win on Wednesday evening, Head Coach Juan Amoros doesn’t want to dwell on the result at Birmingham but admitted that the players must improve in front of goal.
“For us it’s always about what’s next. We know the next game is key, always, and we prepare for it like a final,” Juan commented. “It would be a massive three points for us if we can get them against Brighton and we’re going to do everything we can to do that. It was a difficult game midweek against good opposition and the girls know we should have done better in front of goal but as a group, we do everything we can on the pitch and have no regrets.
“We’re working extremely hard on our execution and intentions in front of goal and we’re definitely going to put a bit more emphasis on that in training because goals give you momentum and confidence in games. Our girls are fighters and I’m sure they’ll go and give a good account of themselves on Sunday.”
We will be showing our support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign on Sunday and our team captain will wear a rainbow coloured armband. The campaign aims to 'make sport everyone's game', with the focus on creating LGBTQ+ inclusive environments within football and other sports. WSL clubs are activating around home matches being played up and down the country this week.
One lucky individual will win a 2019/20 home shirt signed by the Spurs Women players on Sunday in an exclusive giveaway to Tottenham Hotspur Women Season Ticket Holders. The prize will be presented at half-time on Sunday by one of the players.
