Local achievers recognised

The Club has been celebrating the achievements of people across our local community over the past year.

Club Ambassadors Ledley King and Gary Mabbutt recently presented awards at two separate events that recognised the contributions of Haringey residents to the community.

Last night (Monday 2 December), Ledley attended the seventh Outstanding for All Awards, an annual ceremony hosted by Haringey Council, which was held at our stadium for the first time. The large-scale event celebrates the achievements of students, school staff and teachers in the Borough.

During the ceremony, Ledley presented the Achievement in Sport award to Megan Elliott – a talented young sportswoman and aspiring Olympic fencer. Megan, who participates in several school sports teams, was recently selected to represent England at the International Fencing Championships in Poland.

Alongside a host of other awards – including Teacher of the Year, Overcoming Adversity, Apprentice of the Year and Community Hero – guests enjoyed a variety of performances from some of Haringey’s most talented stars. Among the highlights was a musical number from students at The Vale School – a school for children with special educational needs, located just opposite the stadium.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ledley said: “I’m proud to be here surrounded by people that contribute so much to Haringey schools.

“All the nominees were worthy winners and it was great to hear their stories tonight.”

Meanwhile, Gary Mabbutt recognised the contributions of the Borough’s volunteers, charities and community groups last week at the annual Community Impact Awards, organised by the Tottenham-based charity Bridge Renewal Trust.

Following a brief speech thanking the nominees, Gary presented awards across several categories, including Improving the Lives of Children and Young People, and Voluntary and Community Organisation of the Year. The latter was won by Tottenham Food Hub – an initiative that provides food, clothing and support to some of the most vulnerable people in Haringey.

Gary said: “Having been part of the Club for many years, the achievements of people in our community never cease to impress me.

“I would like to congratulate this latest group of Haringey heroes and encourage them to continue the amazing work they’re doing.”
