Jose's verdict on United

Jose Mourinho described the team's performance as ‘reactive, not pro-active’ after a frustrating night and 2-1 loss at Old Trafford.
Frustrating because United took a grip on proceedings and scored early but we’d clawed our way back into it by half-time thanks to a Dele special only to concede a penalty just two minutes into the second half.
Marcus Rashford converted from the spot – his second goal of the game – and that’s how it stayed despite us pushing United back as the second half progressed. Heung-Min Son had a shot blocked in front of goal and David De Gea saved well from Serge Aurier and Dele, but it wasn't to be.
It was Jose's first defeat as our Head Coach on his return to Old Trafford. He said: “I think United deserved to win because they were better than us in the first 30 minutes and because they didn’t make a mistake of the level we made for the second goal.
“Apart from that, I thought we were good in many periods. I think in the second half we were dominant, we moved the ball well, we arrived in the last third, we didn’t have great chances, but we had very dangerous positions in the box.
“Then again, United played the game they wanted to play, defending, compact, trying to create on the counter-attack, but we were punished initially by a lack of intensity, a lack of aggression and then, of course, the second goal is a difficult one to take.
“United were initially more aggressive than us, they started winning more duels, second balls and then we were reactive to that. We had a good 15 minutes between 30 and 45, scored a goal. I wasn’t happy the game went to half-time because we were in a good moment.
“Then in the second half, I thought ‘let’s go for it’ but then we conceded that goal which gave United the confidence and conditions to be more defensive and compact in the second half.
“Of course, I’m not happy, we’re not going to enjoy our way (journey) back, but that’s the way it is. I will sleep at the training ground and tomorrow we will start working.
“In two days we have Burnley and the points we lost today, we have to get them against Burnley to go as close as possible to the positions where we want to finish the season.”
