Harry Kane: "I had the summer to think about that moment"

Mon 12 August 2019, 14:08|Tottenham Hotspur

Another day, another milestone for Harry Kane. And this time, one very close to his heart.

The home-grown striker, ‘one of our own’, will always remember goal number 165 for the Club.

After a host of memorable strikes at White Hart Lane and Wembley - and everywhere else around the UK and Europe - this was Harry’s first goal at our new stadium.

An injury in April meant he’d waited the best part of four months for a moment he’d dreamed of - hitting the back of the net in front of our 17,500-seater South Stand, sending 60,000 Spurs fans into raptures.

We created chances and were knocking on the door. Thankfully, Tanguy opened it and we finished it off from there

“It’s special,” he said. “I’ve been thinking about celebrating in front of the fans for a while. Unfortunately, I got injured towards the back end of last season, so I had the whole summer to think about that moment. It’s nice to get the goals and get that off my back. Hopefully we’ll push on from here.”

Harry finished off Villa with our second and third goals. We’d pushed and pushed for an equaliser to John McGinn’s ninth-minute opener without luck until Tanguy Ndombele marked his debut with the equaliser on 73 minutes.

We kept going, kept going and the ball finally fell for Harry on 86 minutes, the finish as clinical as ever from 10 yards. That was also the case with second for 3-1 on 90 minutes, a low drive that arrowed into the bottom corner.

“It’s a massive win for us,” added Harry. “Everyone has high expectations this season so if we’d started with a loss it would have been a big downer.

“It was tough, Villa made it hard going 1-0 up but in the second half we really put the pressure on, created chances and we were knocking on the door. Thankfully, Tanguy opened it and we finished it off from there.”

The belief of the team was there for all to see again. “We were doing all the right things, winning the ball back high (up the pitch), creating chances, getting shots off and as long as we continued doing that, we knew the goal would come,” said Harry. “It was a great finish from Tanguy and we didn’t take our foot off the gas.”
