To celebrate National Fitness Day, Serge Aurier joined local people for an aerobic workout led by our Foundation at Tottenham Community Sports Centre.
The Club's charitable arm delivers a range of programmes that improve the physical and mental health of people living in the local community, engaging hard-to-reach audiences in and around Tottenham by offering preventative, rehabilitation and health improvement sessions.
Programmes include Shape Up With Spurs, a 10-week exercise and nutritional project that is geared towards people who are obese or overweight, Move For You, a 12-week exercise referral programme for anyone living with and beyond cancer and REIGNITE, personal training sessions for people aged 50 and over.
National Fitness Day encourages the nation to get active and raise awareness of the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Today, thousands of people around the country are taking part in yoga classes, treadmill challenges, HIIT classes, dance-offs and mass walks to help celebrate the day.
Nzinga, a local resident who takes part in Shape Up With Spurs, said: “Before joining the programme I used to struggle to walk and found it difficult to get around.
"After taking part in the sessions, I have lost 30kg and now I’m able to jog and play badminton with my friends.
"As well as losing weight, the sessions have helped me to understand the importance of eating a balanced diet and have given me opportunities to meet like-minded people in the local community.”
Serge said: "As a professional athlete keeping fit is an important part of my job, however it’s not always easy for everyone to find the time to exercise regularly.
"Events such as these bring the community together and help show the simple and easy steps you can take to become more active whilst having fun."
