Mauricio delighted with start

It’s all about balance for Mauricio Pochettino as we matched our best start after eight games in the Premier League.

A little under a month ago, we lost back-to-back league games and then three matches in a row for the first time under Mauricio with a devastating late loss at Inter in the Champions League.

Now we’ve won three straight in the league, the latest just three days after a tough, yet enthralling night and 4-2 reverse against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Eric Dier’s early goal proved enough against Cardiff on Saturday and took us to six wins in eight matches in the Premier League.

It’s the first time we’ve won six of our first eight in the Premier League era and equals the 18-point haul from 2016/17 when we won five and drew three.

It’s worth mentioning that we went on to make it 12 matches unbeaten at the start of 2016/17 – winning six, drawing six.

“A few weeks ago it looks like it was the end of the world,” reflected Mauricio at Wembley.

“The most important thing is to always keep the balance when you win or when you lose and to be right in our assessment.

“Of course, we’re happy because we’re in a good position and we know, because we are insistent, that we need to improve in our performances if we want to be contenders at the end of the season in the Premier League.

“With all the circumstances, I am happy that we have 18 points and yes, we need to improve, we need to have all the squad available again to play, being competitive. I think we are going to have a good season.”
