Internationals - Spurs trio help England topple USA

Thu 15 November 2018, 22:43|Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli and Harry Winks started as England toppled the USA 3-0 in Thursday night's friendly at Wembley.

Eric Dier entered the fray on 58 minutes - the same time as Wayne Rooney made his 120th and final England appearance on the night of a fundraiser for his charitable foundation. Harry Kane was an unused substitute, while Cameron Carter-Vickers was on the bench for the States.

Dele departed as Eric came on having played a part in two goals, winning back possession ahead of Jesse Lingard curling home the opener on 25 minutes and less than two minutes later, finding Jadon Sancho, who in turned rolled into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold to drill home for 2-0.

In his first home friendly for England, 'Winksy' completed 70 minutes and on 77 minutes, Eric started the move that led to Callum Wilson converting the third goal, his first for the Three Lions.

Thursday's action

Elsewhere, Toby Alderweireld completed 90 minutes as Belgium beat Iceland 2-0 in Brussels to make it three wins out of three in UEFA Nations League, League A, Group Two.

Kyle Walker-Peters completed a full shift as well as England Under-21s beat Italy 2-1 in a friendly in Ferrara.

Paris Maghoma came off the bench on 72 minutes as England Under-18s, down to 10 men early, fought out a 2-2 draw against Holland in the first game of a mini-tournament in Spain. J'Neil Bennett and Luis Binks were unused substitutes.

Wednesday's action

Several of our younger players were in action earlier in the week. Defender TJ Eyoma went on as an 85th-minute substitute for England Under-19s as they got their European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign off to a winning start in Turkey with a 4-0 victory over Moldova on Wednesday, while Jonathan De Bie played in goal for Belgium Under-19s as they beat their counterparts from Lithuania 5-0 in Malta.

Academy defenders Dennis Cirkin and Malachi Walcott have endured mixed fortunes with England Under-17s over the last few days. Left-back Dennis started but was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession just before half-time in a 3-1 victory over Republic of Ireland last Thursday while centre-half Malachi completed the full game in a 2-2 draw with Germany on Sunday.
