National School Sport Week celebrated at Hotspur Way

To celebrate National School Sport Week, 130 children from special schools in Enfield took part in an action-packed morning of activity at our Hotspur Way Training Centre.
Ahead of the annual Enfield Special Schools Football Festival, run in partnership between Enfield Council and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the young people were given a warm-up with a difference!
As part of the Premier League and BBC’s new ‘Super Movers’ campaign, a fun, engaging and musical warm-up routine was led by special guests Chirpy, our much-loved mascot, and CBBC presenters Naomi Wilkinson and Hacker T. Dog.
‘Super Movers’ is designed to help inspire primary school children to get active throughout the school day and beyond.
Stars from across the worlds of football and television are brought together in fun curriculum-linked ‘Brain Booster’ song and movement routines for use by teachers in the classroom. Routines focus on Literacy and Numeracy and range from fractions to punctuation to times tables.
Once warmed up, the children, all of whom have a range of physical and learning disabilities, took part in a variety of football-based games and activities under the watchful eye of Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches.
The Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sport Week encourages young people to be more active and this year it is taking place from the 25th – 29th June. Last year, over 5,000 schools and 1.8 million students took part.
The event forms part of the Enfield Section 106 Partnership, launched in June 2010, by Enfield Council, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and Tottenham Hotspur. The partnership has delivered the Club’s £2.3m commitment to community sport and physical activity over 10 years to the Borough in which the Training Centre resides.
Lucy Peirce, School Sport Development Manager at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation said: “Encouraging primary school children to be active is one of the key focuses of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, so we are delighted to be able to give these children an inclusive opportunity to access sport and exercise, and we hope they continue to keep active both inside and outside of school.”
