'Cycle On You Spurs' completes latest charity ride

Wed 06 June 2018, 13:52|Tottenham Hotspur

The Club is extremely proud of members of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST), who have raised more than £25,000 for Prostate Cancer UK at this year's 'Football to Amsterdam' cycle ride.

Entering the annual fundraising event for the third consecutive year with the team name 'Cycle On You Spurs', the 17-strong group – the largest team representing a Premier League football club – set off from the Olympic Park in London on Friday 1 June, arriving at Ajax’s Amsterdam ArenA the following day.

Skippered by Kevin Fitzgerald, the group – kitted out in specially-commissioned shirts featuring the Club’s emblem – was led over the line by Darren Winder, who has a family member currently receiving treatment for prostate cancer, while two of the other riders have beaten the disease themselves.

The group has now raised in excess of £75,000 for Prostate Cancer UK since first entering the event in 2016. Donations can still be made towards this year’s total by visiting their JustGiving page here.

‘Cycle On You Spurs’ already have 22 riders confirmed for next year, when they’ll be setting themselves a challenge of raising a further £50,000.

“Everyone in the team is really grateful for all the support we have received from Spurs, including the use of the Cockerel on this year’s sponsored jerseys, the donation of some great Spurs raffle prizes and legend appearances from Ledley King, Gary Mabbutt and Micky Hazard,” said Kevin.

“In the UK, from the start to half-time of every football match, someone dies from this disease. The ‘Cycle On You Spurs’ team is committed to continuing to spread the message with an even bigger team next year and with more money raised to help fund the research to beat this killer disease.”

This year’s team included: Kevin Fitzgerald, Paul Girling, Daryl Greenough, Jane Greenough, Thomas Kagezi, Bruce Lee, John Neary, Laura Neaves, John O’Brien, Gary Parker, Matt Pocock, Ryan Richards, Tim Sewell, Keith Walker, Amy Warwick, Alex Webb and Darren Winder.

Well done to all involved!
