Davinson Sanchez has lauded the attitude of Harry Kane with the two set to go head-to-head at the World Cup on Tuesday night.
Centre-half Davinson has been a key figure at the back for Colombia so far in Russia and was widely praised for an inch-perfect challenge on Senegal striker Sadio Mane last week as his nation qualified for the last 16 as winners of Group H.
Striker Harry has also been highly influential for England, netting a tournament-best five goals in his two appearances to date as the Three Lions roared into the knockout stages from Group G.
Now, with Colombia and England paired together in a mouth-watering clash in Moscow, Davinson and Harry will put Club friendships to one side as they each bid to help their countries into the quarter-finals of what is shaping up to be a very interesting tournament.
While Davinson tries to plot the downfall of Gareth Southgate’s men, he is full of respect for the England skipper.
“Harry is an unbelievable player and he is so important for his team,” said the former Ajax defender.
“Always when you have a player like Harry you know he can score goals, he can push the defence.
“He’s a key player for us at Spurs, like Jan Vertonghen or like Hugo Lloris. When he says ‘come on’ and tries to lift everyone, or when Jan or Hugo says that, you say in your mind ‘okay, we go together and we try to do this together.’
“His attitude helps the players around him. He’s quiet, he doesn’t need to shout but he is always focused and trying to help.”
Kick-off on Tuesday night is at 7pm UK.
