Loan round-up

Central midfielder Luke Amos scored his first senior goal in some style for Stevenage at the weekend.

The on-loan youngster, who has been named on the bench for us on three occasions over the last couple of seasons, fired home on his right foot from long range to open the scoring for his side at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon. Boro went on to register a 4-1 win to leave themselves 15th in League Two.

Luke has started all of Stevenage’s last four games, having come on as a half-time substitute for his debut in a 1-0 home defeat by Swindon Town after linking up with the Hertfordshire side at the end of January.

Saturday was an eventful afternoon for many of our players out on loan. Team-mates in the Development Squad here at Spurs, Anton Walkes and Shayon Harrison found themselves in direct competition with one another when Portsmouth travelled to Southend United in League One.

Anton, who has been ever-present at right-back for Pompey since joining them last month, even scoring on his debut in a 2-2 home draw with Doncaster Rovers, had to contain attacker Shayon, who lined up on the left side of midfield for the Shrimpers. In the end it was Shayon, making his third appearance in League One and his second start in four days, who secured the bragging rights with his side claiming a 3-1 win. The result left Southend 13th in the table on 44 points, two points behind Portsmouth in 10th.

There was also a debut for striker Ryan Loft on Saturday as he came into the Exeter City squad for the first time since joining them last month and went straight into the starting line-up for their home clash with Mansfield Town in League Two. Ryan played 45 minutes in a 1-0 defeat for the Grecians, who are a point outside the play-off places in eighth.

In the Championship, attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards is yet to feature in a matchday squad for Norwich City but Cameron Carter-Vickers continues to play regularly after swapping Sheffield United for Ipswich Town in January, the centre-half completing the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s East Anglian derby showdown with the Canaries at Carrow Road. That was Cameron’s second experience of a major rivalry this season after featuring for Sheffield United against Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby earlier this campaign.

Cameron’s final appearance for United at the start of last month was actually against Ipswich as the Blades won 1-0 at Portman Road in the FA Cup. The young USA international subsequently made his Tractor Boys debut in a 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers on January 20 – coincidentally the same club he made his Sheffield United debut against back in September – and has played every minute of every game since, with his side currently 12th on 45 points, eight points off the play-offs.

In the same division, midfielder Josh Onomah has made four substitute appearances for Aston Villa since the turn of the year, in addition to a 90-minute stint in a surprise 3-1 home defeat by Peterborough United in the FA Cup. Villa’s focus seems to be very much geared towards earning promotion, though, with Steve Bruce’s side current third in the table and just two points off an automatic promotion spot behind runaway leaders Wolves.

Back in League One, left-back Connor Ogilvie has been in and out of the starting XI for Gillingham in recent weeks as they’ve worked their way up to 11th in the table. Saturday saw the defender play 90 minutes in a goalless draw at home to Walsall.

In the Premier League, winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has made four substitute appearances for Burnley since linking up with them in January.

Overseas, young goalkeeper Tom Glover continues to serve as Central Coast Mariners’ substitute stopper in the Australia A-League while striker Vincent Janssen remains sidelined with an injury at Turkish side Fenerbahce.
