Mauricio Pochettino gave a strong hint that Kyle Walker-Peters could start his first Champions League game for us at the Nou Camp on Tuesday night.

Right-backs Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier have both missed the trip to Barcelona through injury and Mauricio had no hesitation in declaring that Academy product Kyle, 21, was ready to step up on the biggest stage of all.

It’s a crucial game as well with us needing to match Inter’s result against PSV to progress into the knockout stages of the competition.

Younger players always need trust and one day to be given a chance to play and to play here at a difficult place like the Nou Camp will make him stronger.

Mauricio on Kyle Walker-Peters

Asked at his press conference who would play at right-back with Kieran and Serge out, Mauricio responded: “Kyle Walker-Peters will have the option to play. I want to remind you that he won the Under-20 World Cup with England 18 months ago in Korea.

“His quality is unbelievable. Younger players always need trust and one day to be given a chance to play and to play here at a difficult place like the Nou Camp will make him stronger. We don’t have a doubt that he can perform.

“I’m so happy because from the beginning of the season we have three excellent players in that position, three players with different qualities. Kyle has the quality to play.

“He needs to feel free. He’s a very relaxed player and person and the most important thing is that we believe in him, we trust in him and whatever happens he will be a massive success at this Club.”
