From Barcelona to Burnley – and Mauricio Pochettino says the team’s motivation will be the same at Wembley on Saturday as it was at the Nou Camp on Tuesday night.

As Mauricio said afterwards, we made the ‘impossible possible’ by qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League after finding ourselves with one point after three games. In the end, we needed to match Inter’s result on Matchday Six - and Lucas Moura’s late equaliser did just that.

Now we face a Burnley team that ended a run of eight matches without a win in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory against Brighton last weekend.

We need to play against Burnley like we played against Barcelona, that’s the challenge

We go into the game on a run of five wins in our last six in the Premier League and Mauricio wants to maintain that form.

“We need to play against Burnley like we played against Barcelona, that’s the challenge,” said Mauricio.

“The way we are going to approach the game will be key. We need to take the game in the same way as Barcelona with the same motivation, the same energy. The three points we need to win are as important as against Barcelona or any other team.

“I am more motivated to play against Burnley than the previous games because we are trying to reduce the distance between Liverpool and Manchester City. We are going to play for three very important points.

“To be in the top four of the Premier League and to keep that position is a massive motivation. It’s such an important game.

“Burnley were in a very difficult position but they have very good players and are a team that performed very well last season. They are very tough, plenty of energy and I’m sure this will be a difficult game.”
