Lucas Moura loves the emotion of scoring goals for Spurs - and wants to feel it even more.

The Brazilian flyer plundered his fifth goal in 14 appearances in the Premier League this season - his sixth in 20 in all competitions - as we toppled Southampton 3-1 at Wembley on Wednesday night. Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son joined him on the scoresheet as we moved back up to third.

“It’s always amazing to score,” he said. “I wanted to score tonight because I don’t remember my last goal (it was at Wolves on 3 November) and the game was difficult, I didn’t touch the ball a lot and when I scored, I can’t explain the emotion. I cannot explain the feeling.

“I’m so happy and like I always say, I believe in my team-mates, I believe in my team and the most important thing is to win every game and to stay at the top, that’s our objective.”

The feeling when I score is unbelievable, so I need to work hard to score and to help my team

Put to Lucas that he’d contributed well with his five goals in the Premier League so far, he responded: “I’m a striker! I’m not like Harry Kane, he’s scored a lot of goals, but I’m a striker and I know everyone wants to see goals from me.

“It’s my job. First, I work to help my team but I know it’s important to score. The feeling when I score is unbelievable, so I need to work to score and to help my team.”

Lucas agreed that three points was key after Sunday’s derby disappointment.

He added: “It’s always difficult to lose, even more against Arsenal. But that’s football, it happens. We did very well against Chelsea and after, not so good against Arsenal.

“This was a difficult game but we deserved to win. We conceded a few chances but we enjoyed the chances we had, I scored, I’m happy, we won - the most important thing is to win. We’ll keep working and keep believing.”
