Loan watch - Agony for Andros

Andros Townsend missed out on a day at Wembley and the chance to help Birmingham City back into the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The winger started the 12th match of his loan spell at the Blues and the most important as Chris Hughton's men attemped to turn around a 1-0 deficit from the first leg of the Championship play-off against Blackpool.

Andros was kept quiet as Blackpool forged into a 2-0 lead on the night and 3-0 on aggregate with goals either side of half-time.

The 20-year-old was substituted in the 62nd minute and the Blues fought back later in the half to 2-2 on the night, but couldn't find the third goal to take the game into extra time.

Blackpool now face West Ham at Wembley for a place in the Premier League on Saturday, May 19.

Reading and Southampton won automatic promotion.
