Canada came from behind to get their first win of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, beating Republic of Ireland 2-1 on Wednesday.

Katie McCabe opened the scoring for Ireland inside just four minutes, but a Megan Connolly own goal on the brink of half-time reduced the arrears.

Shelina Zadorsky came on at the interval and saw Adriana Leon give Canada the lead in the 54th minute.

Following last week’s 0-0 draw with Nigeria, Canada are now top of Group B with Ireland eliminated.
