Hugo Lloris: “We need to win for Europe… and for Ryan”

Club captain Hugo Lloris has called on the team to make the most of this week’s back-to-back home games, not only to give ourselves the best possible chance of qualifying for Europe, but also for the sake of our Interim Head Coach Ryan Mason.

Wolves are first up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2.05pm UK) before Aston Villa come to visit on Wednesday evening (6pm UK) in a match set to be played in front of 10,000 fans – our biggest crowd since March last year.

With a 100 per cent home record so far under Ryan following wins over Southampton and Sheffield United, Hugo wants to make sure that run continues – for all manner of reasons.

“There are two home games to play, a lot to play for and we need to believe in our chances to get into the European competitions next year – that means something for the Club, because Tottenham is used to providing this for the players and for the fans, so our focus is on the games ahead,” our French skipper explained.

“There was a lot of disappointment after the Leeds game and the performance against them, but we faced a really good side and I think we were not at our best to compete.

“But (we have) two home games now against Wolves and Aston Villa – there are no easy games in the Premier League – and then we finish again at Leicester, another tough one, so game-by-game we try to get as many points as we can.

“We have to do it for ourselves, for our pride, for the Club, for the fans and for Ryan as well, who gives his best for the team with his assistant coaches, because they deserve the best. They’ve tried to help the team, tried to help the Club in a difficult situation and that’s why as players we need to give back.”
