The latest from St James' - Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has spoken about Heung-Min Son’s return to the matchday squad ahead of our clash with Newcastle United this afternoon.

Sonny, who has been out of action since picking up a muscular injury in our north London defeat to Arsenal in March, returns to our 18 today, being named as a substitute. Jose explained that today’s game has come ‘a little early’ for the South Korean to start but he is hopeful that our number seven can make an impact, if necessary, off the bench.

“It's a little early for Son, and with muscular injuries, you always have to be careful,” Jose discussed. “He couldn't play 90 minutes today, it would be too much of a risk, and to be on the bench to be able to come later is probably the best option for us.”

A win at St James’ Park today could send us as high as fourth in the league table, overtaking London rivals Chelsea, who were defeated 5-2 by West Brom yesterday. However, Jose feels we can only focus on ourselves and our own performances as we head into the business end of the campaign.

“The Chelsea result doesn't change our perspective of a game at a time,” he said. “Liverpool won, maybe Everton win, maybe West Ham win, there is too much on this race and what we have to do is get good results in the matches we have to play.”
