Christian Ziege admits to not knowing much about the USA, but is aware that there is a score to settle.
Germany have been beaten in their last two encounters with Kasey Keller's team and Christian feels it is time to alter the balance of power.
"Not really," said Christian on knowing a great deal about Wednesday's opponents. "But I think the last two times we've played against them we've lost. So we have to put things right against them.
"It is always difficult to play against them, The USA is not a small football country anymore, which they were a few years ago. They have a good team and it's always tough.
"I think now our team is going better and I think we can beat them."
Christian suggests that a major turning point in the fortunes of his national team, left shell shocked by England in Munich, came in the thumping they handed Ukraine in the World Cup play-offs.
"That was definitely important for us. The last game against Israel where we won 7-1 was a good game for us as well.
"I hope that things continue to go the way they are now. We have good players, we have good quality in the squad and should be alright."
The turn-around vindicates the faith placed in coach Rudi Voller after the 5-1 mauling - he was backed by the federation, players and fans alike.
"He has a good reputation and is very popular. They did the right decision and he is now staying until 2006, I think.
"Things are good, he's turned it around. We did good against the Ukraine, we worked hard and got back in the World Cup."
And will Christian start against the USA?
"I should have played last time but I was injured. I hope to play, but we'll see what happens."
