Ziege risk factor

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn says that fielding Christian Ziege against Tranmere was a 'tiny risk', but certainly proved one worth taking.

Christian, returning from a knee ligament injury, was the pivotal forced in the first half, scoring a superb opener after just eight minutes and providing the ball for Gus Poyet to notch the second after 35.

The German wing-back has now scored 6 goals this season and has timed him return to perfection with the Worthington Cup final coming up on Sunday. In hailing Christian's return, Glenn also praised the performances of Matthew Etherington in the left-sided role.

No Tranmere Banana skin

"It was a tiny risk I had to take and I had to weigh it up," said Glenn. "Matty's been doing very well for us, but Christian needed a game.

"He's been training extremely hard, we put him on a schedule and he's hit every button right, hit every level that we needed and he's progressed through.

"His knee is a little bit tender, but that will be tender for a couple of months when you've strained the ligament. It hangs on for quite a long time but doesn't affect your playing.

"We took a tiny risk, but it paid dividends today. He's come in and scored a magnificent goal, put quality crosses in for us and the important thing for us is that he almost got 90 minutes under his belt.

"He's got a bit of stiffness, but there is no evidence that he has hurt his knee at all."

Rovers reaction

Glenn was asked whether he feels Christian is the best left-sided crosser of the ball around.

"I think so, without a doubt," insisted the boss. "The quality of his left field play when he is on his day is as good as anyone in the world. I've always thought that and that's one reason why I went out on a limb to get him.

"He does give us a certain type of delivery from set plays and in free play. When he's at his very, very best I don't think there is a better wing-back in the world.

"What we need to do is get him at his best more consistently. We've got to hope Christian goes from now to the end of the season injury free.

"What is good for us is that Matty Etherington has thrown his hat into the ring and that might put him under a bit more pressure to be consistent. I think if that happens and Matty comes in we've got other options there which is always healthy for the squad."
