Ziege: I was worried
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Christian Ziege says he feels some sympathy for referees — after admitting he was worried that he might join Gary Doherty and Gus Poyet in taking an early bath at Everton on Monday.
‘Doc’ and Gus were controversially shown straight red cards by David Elleray at Goodison Park.
Ziege was also booked and his heart was in his mouth after another mistimed tackle.
“I was worried but the referee came to me, which was nice, and said ‘be careful, you’ve already been booked’,” Christian revealed. “That was good for me.
“Everyone saw what happened at Everton but we have to get on with it. It isn’t easy.
“Some decisions were not right from our point of view but it happens all the time in football.
“It is not easy for referees to make decisions in a second. We can talk a lot about it because we can see it afterwards on television hundreds of times. He has to make the decision straight after it happens.
“But we deserved the draw because we worked hard with nine against eleven. I’m quite pleased with the first two games but we’re all looking forward to getting our first three points.”
Christian insisted we now have to take the spirit that helped us hold onto a point with nine men on Monday to Blackburn on Saturday.
He added: “I thought we stuck together well with nine men and even played better football. If we can take that with us to Blackburn we will progress.
“Since I came to the Premier League, no game has been easy. I think every game is tough. Sometimes, if Manchester United are flying, they can smash anyone like we saw last year against Arsenal at home.
“But we saw Blackburn playing against Manchester United, they are the champions, people think they will win it again and everyone is looking forward to playing against them. They have a good team and we have to be prepared for it.”
