Ziege: I can get back to best
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Christian Ziege is convinced he can recapture the form that Glenn Hoddle described as making him ‘the best wing-back in the world three years ago’ with his new start at the Lane.
Our most recent summer capture spoke to the press for the first time since his switch from Liverpool from the squad’s latest training camp, a health farm in Hampshire, on Tuesday.
Capped 57 times by Germany, Ziege fell out of favour at Liverpool and only played a minor part in the Anfield club’s treble-winning season.
He now has the chance to rebuild his career at Spurs.
Asked if he could recapture his best form, the 29-year-old replied: “I’m not afraid to compare myself with anyone in the world but obviously last year was disappointing for me.
“I hope and think I can get back to the times when I was at my best and on fire.
“From what I’ve seen until now I think that is definitely possible at Tottenham.
“You see the squad, the players and I believe we will have a good start.
“Personally, the only thing you can do is keep it going and show people they were wrong. I can’t do anything else.”
The left wing-back has settled quickly. “My team-mates are very nice, I like to train with them and go around with them. I like to stay here,” he said.
“For me it was very important to change the club because I was told I didn’t have a chance to play at Liverpool and so it was better to move on.
“I am glad Glenn Hoddle took me to Spurs and I hope I can give back as much as possible to the club and the manager.”
So how far could Glenn’s new era take the club and its latest German star?
“It is difficult to say now,” he added. “We have a lot of experienced players, a lot of good young players, a good mix.
“It is difficult though. You have to be careful to say at the start of the season where you want to reach because it is a tough league and we have so many good clubs in the Premier League.
“A lot of clubs expect to go to Europe. How many places in Europe are there? Six? Or you have to win a cup final.
“You have Manchester, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds, Liverpool, that is already five big teams and then the rest are very difficult as well. But anything is possible, so why not?”
