Ziege daren't think of defeat

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

You can barely imagine the World Cup without Germany - and Christian Ziege refuses to even entertain the notion of not being in Japan and Korea next summer.

Our in-form wing-back won his place back in the German starting line-up against Finland last month and should start again in the play-offs against Sergei Rebrov's Ukraine on Saturday and Wednesday.

Although delighted to be back, Christian suffered the ultimate disappointment of having his World Cup place snatched away by England when David Beckham curled home his famous free-kick against Greece in the final seconds of the final round of qualifying matches.

Now he has to face Ukraine over two legs for a place in next summer's finals.

"I don't want to think about not being there," said Christian. "We don't think about a World Cup without us. We have to believe that we will qualifY and I certainly hope we make it.

"These are two big games, that's for sure. We've always managed to qualify for tournaments in the last games, Euro 96, even the World Cup in 1990 I can remember us scoring 10 minutes from the end against wales.

"I think are actually better when we have a lot of pressure on us.

"But we have to be careful because it is not the same as in the past. The Ukraine will be a good team and we expect a tough game."

After the 5-1 humiliation by England in Munich, Christian and his team-mates watched in horror from a touchline monitor as Beckham booked England's place in the finals.

They had only managed a goalless draw against Finland - one goal from their many chances would have taken them through.

Could they pick themselves up again?

Christian countered: "We picked ourselves up after the England game and had a good chance to go through.

"we had three or four chances against Finland and even if we'd have scored one of them we'd have been through even if David Beckham hadn't of scored.

"In the end we didn't score so the Beckham goal cost our chances of qualification. I think we are still a good team and I am confident we will beat the Ukraine."
