Zeki ready to compete

Zeki Fryers is refusing to shy away from the battle for a spot in our defensive ranks.

The versatile 21-year-old, who has made 16 appearances in all competitions following his Spurs debut against Dinamo Tbilisi in the Europa League last August, knows competition for places is set to be as fierce as ever come the start of the 2014-15 season.

But with plenty of top level game time now under his belt the young left-back, who has also answered the call at centre-half on a handful of occasions over recent months, believes his endeavours over the course of the recently-concluded campaign have only made him stronger.

“I’ve got a lot of experience and further built my character throughout the season,” reflected Zeki.

“Playing certain games has also boosted my confidence, which is good for me moving forward, and hopefully I can take all that into next season.

“There’s been a lot of competition in each position and there’s not one position that you can say is guaranteed.”

Zeki also believes the chance to play alongside experienced internationals like Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul has aided him in his development.

“What’s helped over the season is that I can fill in at centre-back and also play at left-back so I can mix my games up,” he added.

“But it’s also been beneficial having help from the seniors in the squad, the bigger characters in the group. They’ve helped me a lot so far.”
