Your top five goals of the season: No3
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jermain Defoe's scintillating solo effort against old rivals Arsenal is number three in your top five goals of last season.
The amazing 5-4 defeat at the Lane in November was Martin Jol's first North London derby as Head Coach and few will forget it.
Remember the celebrations as Noureddine Naybet put us 1-0 up? Then there was Ledley King's deft header and Fredi Kanoute's cool finish as we refused to let Arsenal get away.
Amongst the nine goals was Jermain's stunning strike to make it 3-2. He picked up the ball 40 yards from goal, sprinted past five Arsenal players and just as it looked congested on the edge of the box, curled the ball into top corner, leaving Jens Lehmann helpless.
Here is what you said about the goal. Stuart Melton: "It was my first North London derby match against the Gooners. Any goal against them is special. Jermain dribbled past four or five players and scored into the top corner, just in front of where I was sitting. Electric! Unbelievable! More of the same next season!"
Ron Haydon: "Running through three defenders and hitting a shot like that into the top corner from such an acute angle at that pace takes some beating. But not only that, it was special being against our enemy."
Andy Blaikie: "My favourite goal of the season has to be Jermain Defoe's goal versus Arsenal at the Lane in November. I was sitting in the Upper Tier of the Paxton at the time so had a great view of it. Picking the ball up on the touch line 40 yards from goal he made his way through almost the whole Arsenal team before curling an unstoppable shot into the top corner. This typified Jermain’s early season form of being able to create something out of nothing, also this was one of the greatest North London derbies ever and I was proud to be there. It’s just a shame the result didn’t go our way."
Justin Wilkinson: "My vote for goal of the season is Jermain Defoe against Arsenal at White Hart Lane. The reason for my choice is simply the fact that it shows the talent of the player, the strength of the opposition's defence that he just ran through and the quality of the finish. It was an extraordinary match and that goal (after we had just conceded) said it
all about the ability of this player."
We'll have number two in the countdown tomorrow and and the winner and a full rundown of all the goals you voted for on Friday. That's also when we'll announce the winner of the signed Michael Carrick programme - the prize going to one of the fans who voted for the goal of the season.
