Youngsters take credit in draw

Our youngest team so far this season led twice but were pegged back for a draw against Coventry City in the Premier Academy League.

Our youngest team so far this season led twice but were pegged back for a draw against Coventry City in the Premier Academy League.

Five Under-16 players were involved including four in the starting line-up - Laste Dombaxe, Ruben Lameiras, Alex McQueen and Darren McQueen. Shaq Coulthurst then came on as a second half substitute.

Dombaxe drilled in a 20-yard effort to open the scoring only for Coventry to level when the team were made to pay for losing possession in midfield.

Kudus Oyenuga (pictured) restored our lead with a fine finish one-on-one five minutes into the second half before the Sky Blues levelled again for 2-2 in the 75th minute.

It was a good response to a heavy 6-0 defeat against Birmingham City last time out in the PAL.

"It was interesting because Coventry dropped off slightly and let us have plenty of the ball, so it was about being brave on the ball and I saw that in the team," said coach Alex Inglethorpe.

"You want to see a positive response but the 6-0 last time didn't really come into it because it's all about where the players are in their development that really matters.

"This was our youngstest team yet with four Under-16s in the starting line-up and a lot of these players look on track at the moment."

Spurs U18s: Archer, Barthram, Stewart, Dombaxe, Tapping, Sheriff, Munns, A McQueen, Oyenuga, Lameiras (Coulthirst, 70), D McQueen (Champion, 70). Unused subs: Miles, Day, Ekong.
