Young-Pyo Lee was on top of the world when he joined tonight’s opponents PSV Eindhoven back in 2002.

Our full-back had just reached the semi-finals of a World Cup with South Korea and was now embarking on his ambition of playing in Europe.

As a result, he spent three successful years in Holland, in which he won two Dutch titles, a Dutch Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2005.

For this reason, the team we face in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup tonight will always be special to Young-Pyo.

He said: “Everything was new to me when I first joined PSV, but I had very big ambitions to play in European football. I was a little nervous but expectant at the same time.

“I can remember us winning most games, which was fantastic because I won many medals and trophies during my time there. I really enjoyed my time at PSV.

“But after three years there I decided I needed a new challenge. I had achieved a lot and won many trophies and I wanted to play in the Premier League, which is why I came to Spurs.”

Young-Pyo has not looked back since and is now fully focused on helping us knock his former club out of Europe.

But he admits this will not be an easy task against a side he knows all too well.

Young-Pyo added: “It will be very difficult. We should win and we can win, and we need to go to the next round. I always want PSV to do well but I hope we win!

“I think they have very good individual quality and they are very organised and hard-working, so it will be difficult.

“This match is very exciting because both teams are very strong and attack-minded. It should be enjoyable for the fans.”
