Young King on Cole
English Barclays Premiership
Ledley King knows all about the threat posed by Joe Cole - unfortunately he won't be able to do anything about it when West Ham arrive at White Hart Lane on Monday.
Seen as one of the stars of England's future, Cole has already thrilled on the Premiership stage with skills that have been talked about since the age of 11. He's now 19, has played in Hammers' last two games and stole the show in England Under-21's recent 6-1 win against Georgia.
"I've played with Joe a few times for England and he's a great talent," said King. "His skills are unbelievable at times and he's clearly got a good future ahead of him.
"He got injured at the end of last season and has been on the weights since which has built him up a lot. I'm sure he can only get can get better and better."
King would love nothing more than to counter Cole's threat in Monday's televised Premiership clash but at least the news is positive about the injury he sustained playing for England in the European Under-21 Championships in the summer.
The versatile defender was a big hit in those championships before breaking a bone in his foot in the last seconds of the final match. He has been out since - but is now kicking a ball again and preparing for a return.
"It's pleasing to be back," he said. "I've been out with the fitness coach and a few of the lads and it feels good. It's been a long time and I'm enjoying it again.
"I'm looking forward to getting back but I'll take it slowly and hopefully gradually push my way back into the first team squad."
