Young back in fold
English Barclays Premiership
Luke Young is back in the England Under 21 squad. Our versatile defender will hope to add to his five caps in the friendly against Georgia at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium on Thursday August 31. He will again hook up with Howard Wilkinson's youngsters after featuring in the summer's European Championships.
Unfortunately, both Ledley King - seen as the success of those championships - and Anthony Gardner, a late call-up to the event, have missed out. The defenders are both injured, with Gardner suffering a thigh problem and King on his way back after breaking a bone in his foot, ironically in the last game of the championships.
Boss Wilkinson said: "It's a very opportune game for us to be able to get a friendly before into the real nitty-gritty of Germany and Finland in October. The game here will be the unveiling of this group of players for the championships next year. It's a mixture of players who have had experience at this level and who have been in and around squads and other players who, for one reason or another, have not had the sort of experience that you would like."
