Younes Kaboul steps into a new season declaring: “I’m ready.”
The central defender and skipper in Michael Dawson’s absence for our final friendly against Schalke last weekend is set for his 100th appearance for us in the Premier League as we prepare for the big kick-off at West Ham.
Saturday’s win against the Bundesliga side at the Lane completed an unbeaten pre-season friendly schedule and Younes insists the players can’t wait to get started.
“We’re all good, excited and we’re looking forward to it,” said Younes. “We’ve done ever so well in pre-season and everyone has worked hard with the staff.
“It wasn’t easy, we’ve done a lot of running but we’re fit, we’ve played some great football in pre-season and now I hope it will be the same for the start of the season.
“We know we have to start well against West Ham. I think they will try to impress on us straight away but we are Tottenham, we’re playing great football and we have to start sharply in the first 10, 15 minutes, try to score and then defend properly.”
Younes has suffered more than most through injuries in the last couple of years but having started 10 of our final 12 matches last term and worked hard throughout the summer, he’s raring to go.
“I’m confident. I’ve had a good pre-season, I started from July 6 and I feel fit, happy and delighted. I can tell the fans I’m fit and ready.”
