'You could have put your house on him...'

29 January 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Kyle Walker had no doubts as Christian Eriksen bore down on goal with our Wembley destiny at his feet two minutes from time at Bramall Lane.

“You could have put your house on him,” said Kyle after Christian duly slotted home the equaliser on the night for a 3-2 aggregate win against Sheffield United and a place in the Capital One Cup Final against Chelsea on Sunday, March 1.

We looked in complete control after Christian’s superb free-kick doubled our aggregate lead at 2-0 and we created a host of chances in the first half.

But two goals in as many minutes dragged the Blades back into the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.

We were not going to be denied though and found a late winner for the seventh time this season as Christian latched onto Harry Kane’s pass and was coolness personified with so much as stake, calmly slotting the ball home for 2-2 on the night, 3-2 on aggregate.

“He’s done it time and time again,” said Kyle. “The first goal, I looked how he was lining up the free-kick and I was thinking ‘where’s he going?’ but he managed to put it in the opposite side, a fantastic goal.

“When he went through on goal you could have put your house on him. It’s very rarely that he’ll scuff it or misses the target."

It was an emotional night for Kyle back at his boyhood team, the club he joined at six and played for until he joined Spurs at 18 in 2009.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to get to Wembley," he added. "I’ve been there a few times with England but to walk out in a final for Tottenham Hotspur will be something special.

“When I signed six years ago I said I wanted to win trophies and hopefully this will be the first.”
