Xtra - Ossie receives top honour

22 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Ossie Ardiles has been recognised at the Golden Foot Awards in Monaco.

Our legendary former midfielder and World Cup winner with Argentina in 1978 is one of three players to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious ceremony.

Ossie has been recognised with fellow legends, Colombian international Carlos Alberto Valderama and French striker Jean Pierre Papin.

All three players left their footprints on the cement for the Champions Promenade, the famous Wall of Fame of international football on the seafront of Principality of Monaco. It's known as the 'Hollywood of football'.

Ossie famously joined us alongside Ricky Villa in July, 1978. He went on to play in the FA Cup Final and replay against City in 1981, achieving 'Ossie's Dream', in a game now renowned worldwide for Ricky's solo goal.

He went on to play over 300 times for us in all competitions, playing in the 1982 League Cup Final, lifting the UEFA Cup in 1984 and playing in the 1987 FA Cup Final, before departing for QPR in August, 1988. Ossie later managed the team in 1993-94.

Didier Drogba has won the Golden Foot Award for 2013. The award recognises the best player in the world over the age of 28. Previous winners are Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Francesco Totti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
