Wycombe boss Ainsworth: 'There are fairytales in the FA Cup'

27 January 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth believes his players can play without pressure in Saturday's FA Cup tie at White Hart Lane.

The former Queens Park Rangers midfielder has masterminded a fantastic 16-game unbeaten streak for his side leading up to our fourth round tie.

Fifth in League Two, the Chairboys have never faced us in a competitive game but, with the chance to scalp Premier League opponents, Ainsworth says his charges can go about their business with freedom.

"There's no pressure on us," said the 43-year-old, who took over as player-manager of Wycombe in 2012 before hanging up his boots the following year – although he did appear for the Chairboys as a substitute in a Checkatrade Trophy tie with Northampton Town in August this season.

"It'll be a brilliant day for Wycombe Wanderers. We want to give a good account of ourselves so we'll give our best and see what happens. We know we can cause them problems.

"If it takes Tottenham Hotspur to end our unbeaten run then that says something, but I'm hoping we can keep this run going.

"There are fairytales and upsets in this competition. If Spurs aren't at their best then we have a chance. We believe in ourselves."
