WTPS: Richards for England

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The tabloids go with what Glenn Hoddle had to say about Dean Richards in their first takes from Thursday's press conference.

The Sun and Mirror go with Glenn comparing Dean to Sol Campbell while the Express reports the manager's believe that he has the potential to play for England.

Mark Irwin's story in the Sun reads like this: GLENN HODDLE unleashes Dean Richards tomorrow — convinced he has a leader to make Spurs fans forget Sol Campbell.

The £8.1million colossus plays his first game after finally completing his move from Southampton.

And Hoddle insists his biggest signing for the club will not be overawed by the prospect of facing Manchester United.

He said: “When we lost Sol, it was important we got a replacement with the same physical and mental presence.

“That is what we have in Dean and the challenge for him this season is to force himself into the England squad.

“That is not my decision but, having managed at international level, I believe he has the assets required.

“We’ve signed a player who is hitting his peak.

“And if he does half as well for this club as Sol Campbell, then we will have a major asset.”

Hoddle has earmarked the former Bradford and Wolves defender, 27, as a future Spurs skipper.

The manager added: “He’s quiet off the pitch but comes alive when the match starts and is a very good talker.”

“It’s going going to be difficult for him in the early stages and you can’t get a better test than facing United in your first game.

“But I am sure he is going to be a very, very good player over the next four or five seasons.”
