World Cup 2014 - Spurs fans in Brazil

We have a number of Spurs fans ready to paint us a picture of World Cup life in Brazil.

Drew Maher (Dallas Spurs), Christopher Compeggie (Seattle Spurs), Rob Ahlers (Amsterdam Spurs) and Yolan Strobbe (Flemish Spurs) are all flying the Spurs flag in Brazil.

They are joined by our former Academy player and Spurs fan Destin Makumbu, who has also travelled to Brazil and will be sending us updates of his travels during the tournament.

Here is a quick introduction to the Spurs fans in Brazil...

Drew Maher (pictured above)

I started following football in 2002 when I joined a friend after a recording session to watch Brazil in the middle of the night. I was hooked. That fall, I chose Tottenham as my team and I'm always on hand to cheer Spurs from our Dallas branch, win, lose or draw.

This is my third World Cup, and I'm even more excited than I was to attend the first one.

I have been a Spurs' supporter since 2007.  I am a Lilywhite member and, living in the Seattle, Washington area, I have to be creative to follow Tottenham. This includes getting up (or staying up) in the early morning hours to watch the team play. I flew to see the team play in LA on the last US tour and try to make an annual trip to White Hart Lane.

I am looking forward to my first world cup and cheering on the players in Brazil. I am also excited about seeing the entire team when they come to Seattle this July.

My granddad lived in Edmonton and was a St John's Ambulance man on the pitch perimeter until his death in 1971.

He made me the first overseas member of the Spurs Supporters Club in 1964 when I showed some affinity with the game and there is a photo of me in Spurs kit in 1966 on the Amsterdam Spurs microsite, pretty cute even if I say so myself!

My first visit to the UK and (and to WHL) was in 1969 and I lived in London from 1970 to 1987. Since returning to Holland, I still manage to get to about 6-10 games a season, though often these are away games and preferably European games.

I was asked to set up the Amsterdam Spurs Supporters club in 2012 and became 'live' in January 2013. We have about 75 members, a mix of ex-pats and locals with an affinity to the club.

I have been to every World Cup and Euros since 1996 and this time, we are staying with my brother who lives in Teresopolis, a town just outside Rio which is also where the Brazilians have their training camp.

Yolan Strobbe

I am a Belgian Spurs fan and a member of the Flemish Spurs in Belgium. I'm from Ghent and I'm travelling with six friends to Rio for the World Cup.

Destin is a former Academy player who now plies his trade in Norway.

Like Drew, he's already in Brazil and reported: "I am now in Rio de Janeiro, a great city with great people who are very patriotic. I think the country itself lives, breathes and sleeps football 24/7."
