World Cup 2014 - Roberto's warning

As someone with first-hand experience of playing against Chile, Roberto Soldado knows how tough Spain’s second World Cup outing promises to be.

The reigning champions will be looking to get their defence of the biggest prize in world football back on track against their South American opponents this evening (Wednesday) after crashing to a 5-1 defeat against the Netherlands in Friday’s Group B opener.

Striker Roberto was on target the last time the two nations met back in September, Chile holding Vicente del Bosque’s side to a 2-2 draw in a closely-contested friendly.

And our 29-year-old front man expects his compatriots to undergo a similarly stern examination when the sides lock horns again at the famous Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, kick-off 8pm.

“Spain played Chile recently and they are a side full of great players who are very young, which means they can only keep on getting better and better,” Roberto said.

“The last time the two teams played, we didn’t manage to beat them and we ended up drawing 2-2.

“I’m sure this evening’s game is going to be difficult too.”
