With a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake, Jan Vertonghen insists Belgium will be doing all they can to see off the challenge of USA this evening.
The Red Devils go into their round of 16 tie – kick-off 9pm – defending a 100 per cent record at the tournament so far.
But with USA having already demonstrated their abilities in front of goal with a series of impressive showings in the group stage, defender Jan knows his nation will have to be at their best if they’re to find a way past Jurgen Klinsmann’s men tonight.
“It’s a big game,” said Jan, who captained Belgium and scored their goal in last week’s 1-0 win over South Korea. “We’re playing a very strong opponent who did well in their group but if we can beat them we’ll get to the quarter-finals so we have to take our chance.
“We’re looking forward to the match.”
