World Cup 2014 - Belgians bow out

Sat 05 July 2014, 19:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen and Nacer Chadli featured as Belgium suffered a 1-0 defeat against Argentina in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Saturday.

Jan started at left-back and delivered the best chance of the game for his side, his cross from the left wing headed over by Marouane Fellaini in the second half.

Nacer arrived off the bench on 75 minutes as Belgium pushed for an equaliser. Mousa Dembele was an unused substitute.

In the end, an early strike from Gonzalo Higuain after just eight minutes was enough for Argentina.

That means Paulinho is the last Spurs representative at the tournament as his Brazil side take on Germany in the semi-final in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.
