Work like an Egyptian
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Mido promised we would see the best of him this season — so far, he’s stuck to his word.
The Egyptian star was an instant hit with two goals on his debut against Portsmouth at the Lane in February.
However, injuries restricted him to just 10 games and one more goal last term and he admits he lost form and fitness.
He set out in the summer to put that right and arrived back for pre-season training almost a stone lighter and raring to go.
His performances in pre-season have been impressive with four goals and he’s now hoping to transfer that form into the Premiership with Portsmouth in his sights again in the opener on Saturday.
“As I said when I signed I knew the first five months would be difficult,” reflected Mido. “That’s normal and not only for me, but any player who goes to a new club.
“I made a good impact in the first game but after that it was difficult and I knew I had to come back.
“I worked hard in the summer, didn’t have a vacation and worked hard.
“All my friends were away but I chose to train, to lose weight and be ready for the pre-season preparations. So far it’s gone well, I’ve scored goals and I’m looking forward to the start of the season. I feel better and everyone can see that I’m fitter.”
Naturally, Mido has fond memories of that day back in February when he introduced himself to the fans with a storming two-goal debut against Pompey.
“It was a good day for me,” he smiled. “I had a great reception and I responded well, two goals and maybe my best game for Spurs. I hope I can do the same on Saturday!
“The first impression is very important in any job, not just football, but a performance like that can also make it difficult as well because you then have to live up to those expectations.
“Last season I wasn’t fit so I couldn’t play every game at that level. The first game I played a lot with my heart and it was difficult after that. This season is different. I feel fit and we’ll see what happens.”
