Wolves U18s 1-2 Spurs
Ruben Lameiras was on target again as our Under-18s beat Wolves 2-1 in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday.
The midfielder scored what turned out to be the winner in first half injury time to make it three goals in his last five appearances for the Under-18s.
Dominic Ball opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Wolves levelled seven minutes later before Lameiras struck in the 46th minute.
"I was really pleased with the lads," said Academy Manager, John McDermott. "It was a difficult game and a few things went against us, for a start, there was an accident on the way which meant we didn't get to the ground until about 45 minutes before kick-off.
"It would have been quite easy not to start well but our mentality was really good against a well-organised Wolves team.
"We controlled the play in the first half and scored when Dominic Ball followed in a rebound from Filip Lesniak's shot.
"We then went to sleep and got caught on a counter-attack, that was disappointing, but Ruben was exceptional playing wide right and drifting inside and did well for our second goal.
"In the second half I give us credit that we didn't concede and we were tough but at the same time, I was a little disappointed that we weren't able to bring a little more control to the game, but that was a lot down to the way Wolves set their stall out. They made it difficult for us.
"It was important we won and important we toughed it out, but at the same time we also wanted to impose our style on them. It got a bit chaotic but overall, we were pleased.
"There were four stand-out performances. Laste Dombaxe out of position at centre-half, he looked rock solid, showed leadership and composure. Lesniak was excellent, Josh Onomah came back into the team and was outstanding for 60 minutes as was Ruben."
Spurs U18s: McGee, McEneff, Ball, Dombaxe, Ogilvie, Lesniak, Winks, Onomah (Michael-Percil, 69), Lameiras (Vincent-Young, 75), Oduwa (Zapata-Caicedo, 57), Akindayini.
