Winning all that mattered - Erik

Sun 21 December 2014, 09:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Erik Lamela opened his Premier League account in style with fantastic winner against Burnley – but he wasn’t interested in any personal plaudits afterwards.

The winger curled home a beauty against the Clarets, a goal worthy of winning any game on any stage and one that proved the difference in a tough encounter at the Lane.

Harry Kane headed home his 14th of the season on 21 minutes as we dominated the early exchanges only for Ashley Barnes to rock us with an equaliser from nowhere six minutes later.

On 35 minutes, Erik drifted in from the right before unleashing a curler beyond Tom Heaton into the far corner.

We ended the fisrt half with a shot count of 13-3 in our favour but Burnley remained a threat and Hugo Lloris had to deny Danny Ings and Ross Wallace in the second half.

It was our third win in six days and as Erik pointed out, that’s all that really mattered.

“I’m happy because we won and we played a good game,” he said.

“We have three points more and that’s important for us. I’m happy with the goal but happier because we won.

“We’ll keep working hard to go forward. The most important thing is to continue working hard. The season is long and we need to continue in this way.”
