Winks reflects on 'brilliant' experience

Harry Winks was delighted to get so much game time under his belt on our post-season tour of Malaysia and Australia and thanked our worldwide fans for their backing of our younger stars.
The 19-year-old central midfielder figured heavily in both matches on the trip, completing the full 90 minutes in our 2-1 win over a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur before going on as a substitute for Ryan Mason just after the hour mark as we defeated Sydney FC 1-0 in Australia.
Having spoken before the tour about his “honour” at being named in the travelling squad by Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino, Harry – one of the stars of our Under-21s side in 2014-15 – was thrilled to get the opportunity to ply his trade alongside our first team regulars as we competed for the AIA Cup.
And he said the tremendous reception afforded to himself and our other Development Squad players on the trip, in addition to our senior stars, came as a pleasant surprise.
“It’s been brilliant and I’ve loved every minute of it,” beamed the England youth international. “Being in with the first team the whole time has been great and to get a lot of game time with them has been excellent as well.
“The older boys have been very helpful to me and the other young lads. Every time we need a bit of advice they give it to us. They’re very friendly, have been very supportive and have helped us out a lot.
“The backing from the fans we’ve received has been amazing as well. When you come to these places it’s mesmerising with the amount of people that support you.
“Even for someone like me, the exposure with the first team means that I’ve come away and people know who I am! It’s been a great experience, a brilliant trip to come on and it’s great to see so many fans on the other side of the world.”
