Win, win situation for Legends
It was a win-double for the Spurs Legends squad as they capped off a hectic weekend with consecutive victories.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon near Attleborough in Norfolk, a hat-trick from Andy Sinton inspired the team of former White Hart Lane stars to a stunning 9-2 victory over Rockland Veterans.
Sinton created a couple of early chances before setting up Micky Jarrett to put Spurs into a 12th-minute lead.
Garry Brooke forced a fine save from the Rockland goalkeeper with a half-volley, while at the other end, Graeme Shurey produced a superb save from visiting stopper Simon Dobson.
Brooke made it 2-0 when he sent a free kick just inside the far post, while defender Justin Edinburgh made a good covering tackle to stop the hosts pulling a goal back.
Trevor Wilkinson headed in Mark Falco’s cross for 3-0, before Darren Claxton swept the ball home to get the home side off the mark.
Another good save from Dobson just seconds into the second half was quickly followed up by Sinton’s first goal, which came from the penalty spot after Jarrett was fouled in the area.
Wilkinson made it 5-1 with a close range shot, before Sinton bundled the ball into the net, only to be denied by an offside flag.
Sinton did finally get his second of the afternoon with a precise effort from 18 yards after being fed by Falco, before Wilkinson netted his third and Tottenham’s seventh on 65 minutes when he ghosted in at the back post to nod home Brooke’s cross.
Sinton completed his treble with 10 minutes remaining when he played a give-and-go with Wilkinson before firing unstoppably past the home goalkeeper.
Substitute Micky Southam made it 9-1 to Spurs five minutes later with a long-range effort, before John Fitzgerald scored a consolation goal for Rockland seconds before the end.
