Willem seizes chance

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle said of Willem Korsten: ‘there is a player in there waiting to come out’ - perhaps the emergence started at Liverpool on Sunday.

Our flying Dutchman is now back on track after a difficult, injury-hit time at the club so far.

Willem has suffered more than his fair share of injury problems since arriving from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 1999 but, having gained full fitness earlier this season, he found Premiership appearances hard to come by.

He continued to do the business in the reserves but injuries have handed him his chance and he appears to be taking it.

When it was pointed out that his goal at Anfield showed a confidence not yet seen in the Premiership, he responded: "To be fair I think I haven’t had the chance yet.

"A new manager has come in, he’s given me a few games and hopefully I can show what I can do.

"So far I’ve only had 10 or 15 minutes as a sub. You can’t really do a lot in that time, although I’m not using that as an excuse.

"I’m just happy that there is a new manager here now and I might get a bit more time than I had before.

"I’m just hoping I can show what I can do and get the time to show what I can do.

"If you see they way we played on Sunday, we haven’t played that well away from home. That performance has been elevated. We’re playing more football and hopefully that will continue.

"I want to do well for myself, for the club, for everyone. Tottenham is a great club and I want to perform as well as I can. Hopefully I can get a chance and do well. My injuries are behind me and hopefully it will stay that way."

The only disappointment for Willem is that he will miss the game against Leicester City on May 5 through suspension after his red card against Chelsea.

So, in a nutshell, are we yet to see the best him? "Yes."
