Will power

William Gallas reflected on Sunday’s win at Southampton and insisted: "We fought for those three points."

Back in the team as skipper after sitting on the bench against NK Maribor, William was outstanding in the centre of defence as Southampton threw everything at us in the second half at St Mary’s.

We were in complete control at the end of the first half as goals from Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey handed us a 2-0 lead.

But the Saints hit back after the break, pulled a goal back through Jay Rodriguez and asked questions as they searched for an equaliser.

“All the players fought in the second half, we were professional and fought for everything,” said William, who produced a couple of key blocks at crucial times.

“We didn’t want to concede that second goal.

“We all wanted to go back to London with all three points - that was very important for us.”
