Wilko delighted with Young
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
England Under-21 boss Howard Wilkinson heaped praise on Luke Young by insisting: “He’s had a terrific season — and I’ve told him so.”
Our versatile defender returned to his original right-back role — the position he started his professional career in — in England’s fine friendly win against Mexico on Thursday night.
Luke hardly put a foot wrong in winning his ninth cap at Filbert Street.
In fact, he spent most of the first half linking up with the forwards in his opponents half as England dominated before finally running out deserved 3-0 winners.
The 21-year-old made way at half-time asWilkinson made six changes at the break before eventually giving every substitute bar third-choice keeper Stuart Taylor a run out, 11 changes in total.
Wilkinson said: “Luke is now one of the most experienced players in the team.
“I had a chat with him this morning (Thursday) and said to him I though he’d done well, that he’d had a terrific season, played right-back, left-back, centre-back, played in midfield and it isn’t easy when you are trying to get settled into a position.
“But he’s played wherever he’s been picked and that’s all you can ask. And he’s acquitted himself well wherever he’s been picked.”
