When Harry met Fredi

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Fredi Kanoute says he will always be grateful to Pompey boss Harry Redknapp - the man who gave him his break in English football.

The then West Ham manager recruited the striker in March 2000 - initially on loan - from Lyon and Fredi has since become a proven Premiership performer, making his switch to the Lane in August 2003.

He'll catch up with his old boss tonight when we travel to Fratton Park to take on Harry's latest charges and Fredi recalls difficulty understanding Harry's London twang when the jokes were flying around at Upton Park.

"Firstly I am grateful to him," said the now fit frontman. When I came to England it was with him and he wanted me to come. He has always been very helpful to me and I will never forget this.

"He is a special man. I knew when I first came that when he was speaking everyone was laughing, but I didn't get everything because of his accent.

"When I first came in I didn't understand the Cockney accent but afterwards I understood - he is a very generous man and I like him.

"He likes good football with good players on the ball, he always has good teams that like to play football."

Looking ahead to the game, Fredi knows there will be no easy pickings against a team built by his former boss.

"They have good players in every part of the team. I think, especially in certain games, they can be fantastic and I hope it isn't going to be against us.

"He knows the championship, knows players and what players to take. He is always building good teams."
