Wednesday August 14

Manager Glenn Hoddle has no interest in signing Brazilian star Ricardinho from Corinthians.

Newspaper and TV reports have linked Spurs with the 24-year-old midfielder and a Corinthian official has been quoted as saying: "There is strong interest from Tottenham".

Corinthian officials did visit the club over the weekend, but Director of Football, David Pleat, insists that Glenn has no interest in any of their available players.

"We entertained officials from the Corinthians club who were over here on a visit from Brazil at which time it was mentioned that they were hoping to transfer players from their club to England," said David.

"It was made quite clear to them that Glenn currently has no interest in any of their players as those that they wish to sell play in positions that we do not require."

We were also linked in Wednesday's papers with Stockport's Robert Clare. David Pleat was reported in the Mail as having watched the England youth centre-half on Saturday.

"With the season now beginning, Tottenham scouts will be out and about once again making sure that any young talent in the lower leagues is well covered," confirmed David.

In fact he was at Highfield Road on Saturday enjoying Coventry v Sheffield United and was therefore surprised to read that he'd been to watch Stockport at Colchester that same afternoon and had recommended Clare!
